Heading out to Tow Hill
In JN3 you would have read about the Golden Spruce book. There, the author talks about the sheer density and biodiversity of the PNW rain forests. With each step through the forest, one steps on 16,000 invertebrates.
Looking out towards Rose Spit, the very NE part of Haida Gwaii from where the Haida came according to legend.
Top of Tow Hill looking towards Masset. We had a bald eagle above and one below calling to each other.
Mushrooms and Moss … Everywhereeeeeeeee!
Alaska
I very much enjoy the Haida stories. For more, I recommend the book, A Story As Sharp As A Knife.
There's Tow Hill, where we just were.
Rivers everywhere
Beach lunch courtesy of Roy the truck from Vancouver. I like that the Canadian car of choice is truck. :)
Collecting rocks at Agate Beach
I spy the sky government facility

Outside of Port Clements is the Golden Spruce trail which takes you to the site of the felled 300 year old golden spruce.

Interesting talking to local man, Jack, this morning and then seeing him in the coffee table book at home base that evening.

Now at Misty Meadows Provincial Park in Tlell
There are plover like birds out here, that would run in front of me constantly shrieking trying to get me to follow them away from their nest. I know I'm close when they start to act injured.
In reality, I wasn't looking for their nests but their behavior the next day made me go on the look. I didn't see any except for this one that I almost stepped on during that first evening.
The nests are extremely hard to see, even flat out in the open as they are. I've been pondering the evolutionary ladder of this. But not too much.
Excuse me sir, would you like some slugs?
These were all in my campsite and it took me less than 3 minutes to photo them all!
Surprisingly large presence out here… When in Rome…
Intentioned stashings
I'm not sure why there is sepia tone here but I like it
Another interloper on my journey. Z is from Belgium! We tried to ride our bikes on the beach but the sand was too soft. So we walked.
I got to watch these mushrooms over a while…. More pictures later.
The evening slug congress at my camp site

I have a dollop of reception at the beach only. Nowhere else. I find that humorous.
Poems come out of hiding in the quiet solitude of nature time
Screaming plover Houdini
I think I shall take Lily the bike out for a venture. I don't want top walk the 12km to the shipwreck today…
But first, a stop to check on my friends
Got my technical road riding quota today
Got tired of the roots, locked Lily to a young tree and walked only to find that the trail became rideable about 1.5km in, so turned back and retrieved Lily… 🤣😬
Omg. So worth the technical riding, walking, and shoulder carrying the bike!
Unbikeable / incoming tide storage
Pesuta Shipwreck
Very large chain
Mother and daughter cow girl journey north interlopers from Alberta.
Some people get stranded out at the shipwreck at high tide… Guess todays high tide was a kind one!
Didn't see a road to this cabin other than the river bank.
Deer prints and jellies
Trails runners that should have been retired 3 years ago showing you the depth of moss. Soundless cloud walking.
Nurse log doing its thing
Tlell River is calling for a dip…. I did the 4km round trip to my van from here so I could change and not be stuck with wet clothes…. Worth it!
Turns out the water was brackish so I finally was forced to use the small water hose off the back of Becca the van. I haven't used it yet because its doesn't have hot water but it was a none issue on this warm day. Ended up in my birthday suit I was having so much fun! 🤣
Multi-use rack!
Back out to the beach again!
9PM fancy footwork camera :)

Hanging at my friends house in Skidegate, watching the tide come in, eating fresh crab from this morning, and posting the last few days of JN!
Tomorrow I take the ferry to the south island and stage for my 10 day kayak trip in Sandspit. We will be going through the infamous Gwaii Haanas National Park!
Likely will not be posting again until July 2nd.
