Journey North 2

6.1.23

A dragonfly liked to sit on me while I spent time in the lake. Never facing away. Quickly ate a little bug that landed on my arm. A small fellow of a few inches, light turquoise and black stripes.

I'm about 8 hours from my destination on the 7th and am glad to have chosen to stay another night.

Hello, Bald Eagles, reminding me that I am exactly where I need to be.

I am wading in the lake, back and forth. I have seen a trout lazily moving through the water, highlighted gracefully by the sun. My footprints still present from the last time I walked here. A 3 winged dragon fly, I rescued and let sit on my thumb until it was dry and flew away.

Juvenile purple finches fluttering for food, beautiful songs carried by the breeze.

The people have gone away now, the snakes have come out. Slender and gray. At the waters edge. Rustling without a care in the world. I continue wading.

I sit. I sit nap. I am shat on by a starling who fluffs his feathers when I look up and say to him, “You little turd bucket!”

I flick with a stick and rinse the remainder in the lake.

At Esalen, I was introduced to what I call, The Lexicon of Happy. We humans have an adept talent of focusing on those things which bother us, but how much thought space do we spend on the things we enjoy? Not nearly as much. The Lexicon of Happy is the practice of taking conscious moments of the pleasant things around us and creating a lexicon of happy that is equal or in excess of size to our lexicon of grumpy.

TLH of the Now:

Yellow evening light on tree canopies

Shadows held still on the waters’ surface

Freshly showered at my camp, reading a really good book

Perfectly temperatured (fuzzy) water

Tsagaglalal “She Who Watches” Petroglyph

Probably 2 maybe 3 feet across. Very pleasant being.

I got a voicemail from the Eastern Washington Parks Supervisor saying he waa interested having me on in 2024. :)

Now at Steamboat Rock State Park, Jones Bay. Stoked to have the entire place to myself cruising in on a Friday evening.

Can someone please ID this tree? It smelled AMAZING.

6.3.21

Body wanted a big putting… We came up to this side and then back down and then around the far corner and up to the top of the other side. Bald Eagles nest up here.

I don't think this is an ancient structure. Maybe a Bald Eagle eye spy wall?

These smell amazing. Maybe some sort of Jasmine?

Saw multiple rusty can piles. Why.

Presence.

“I derped” local street art.

Amazing how much water there is out here.

There were too gentlemen floating in this lake fishing with half theor bodies submerged wearing fins. They caught 3 fish while we chatted.

Hi, I am a weird tiny flower growing directly from the earth.

3AM Magical Moon.

There was techno across the lake. Brought back memories of the Santa Barbara mountain parties we used to have with the Santa Ana winds blowing warm.

Canadian Goose Gifts

Very imposing police station.

Grand Coulee Dam

Osoyoos border crossing.

Manning Provincial Park

Saw these cuties at Steamboat. Apparently they bloom once they are 20 years old+?

The water is a little colder here. Snow melt. :)

6.5.23

A very high quality photo of a trout :)

I hiked many miles (maybe 8? 10?) with wet shoes today and now my toes have brown dirt real deep in the toey crevices

Crossing the Rainbow Bridge

It was shade from whence I came and light from where I went

Hello spider

More 20 year phlox!

6.6.23

Hard work.

I came up here for reception and to put air in may tires. Acrually my psi was good. Yay. I also ran into my new friend again who I spebt quite a bit of time talking to yesterday and also today! We exchanged contact this time around!

Looking towards the USA CA border. Half of these mountains are in USA and half in Canada.

A small mountain squirrel variety. Very friendly and personable. Clearly people feed them. I gently bopped them on their noses and they didn't mind, they kept standing upright on their back legs reaching.

Stop in Hope for a sandwitch and smoothie. The woman that owns this establishment makes bone art… ;)

6.7.23

Last night, I ended up staying with a very lovely Italian family in Coquitlam. Lots of great food and conversation!

Shannon Falls en route to Whistler.

I arrived to Whistler at around 1PM. My buddy wasn't due back from work until the following day so I took advantage of having the house to myself and have some alone quiet time. Took a nap and went for a walk.

Ended up swatting a mosquito off of my right pinky and its proboscis got stuck there.

6.8.23

My pinky swelled up so I decided to be prudent and go to urgent care, where they removed the proboscis with a baby needle and gave me some extra fancy anti histamines to get the swelling down and also gave me a prescription for antibiotics just in case - a good thing to have on the road north from here.

I got a parking ticket while at the pharmacy / lunch while waiting for pharmacy to prepare my goods… I appealed and they let me off with a warning!

Door dash delivery to Becca. :)

Then Brian came home and we had a couple days of cycle and food adcentures!
